Want the key to a good media hook in promoting your book promotion interview?

Here it is:

Reveal enough about what you have to say to get people interested, but no more than you have to.

Your hook should have drama, importance, and human interest. Rick Frishman opens his article, Initial Media Contacts—Part I, with a discussion of hooks.

He then goes into an explanation of who to call at each media outlet, what to say (and what not to say), and how to follow up appropriately.

Frishman points out, too, that if you’re using voice mail, your potential as an interviewee will be judged by the reporter listening to your message. He suggests that you consider voice mail an audition. Be brief, to the point, and have fun.

Rick even offers suggestions on how to handle being rejected.

But then, if you’ve followed their other instructions for setting up your book promotion interview, that’s not so likely to happen, now, is it?
