Greeks, Metaphors, and Your Book Marketing Campaign
Filed Under: Platform Building, WritingThe word metaphor comes from the Greek meta (over and above) and pherein (to bear across). Metaphors are the home of dreams, stories, and cultural icons. It’s no accident that Homer’s Odyssey is the same story as George Lucas’s Star Wars. Same story, same metaphors. Even the same basic characters. Part of the reason Star Wars was such a hit is our right brain’s recognition of the pattern.
In his article, Drifting, Surfing, Drowning, and Sailing In Puddles, Swamps, Wells, and Oceans, bestselling marketing consultant, Roy H. Williams uses metaphors to make a complicated set of guidelines simple and easily understood.
Metaphors work so well because they address the right brain in the symbolism that hemisphere communicates in.
How are you building your marketing platform? Are you tapping into the power of the right brain by using metaphoric examples in your communication with potential customers? Shouldn’t you be doing so?
